On 3 November 2008 the Independent Investment Trust PLC bought back 400,000 shares at 120p each.

In contrast to the intention expressed on page 14 of the Annual Report, the board has decided to cancel these shares rather than hold them in treasury because there is no foreseeable prospect of them being re-issued.

Following the purchase and cancellation of the above shares, 65,483,000 ordinary shares of 25p each will remain in issue. The Independent Investment Trust PLC holds no ordinary shares in Treasury.

The above figure (65,483,000) may be used by shareholders as the denominator for the calculations by which they will determine if they are required to notify their interest in, or a change to their interest in, The Independent Investment Trust PLC under the FSA's Disclosure and Transparency Rules.
