Goals boss nets £2.7m in sale

04 October 2006 14:15:00

Goals Soccer, providers of five-a-side football centres, has witnessed fairly rapid growth since floating nearly two years ago.

Shares in the group have soared by more than 300% since flotation on the back of its continued expansion policy and are now touching on record highs, in spite of the stock market volatility this summer.

Following the recovery over the last few months, managing director Keith Rogers has chosen to bank some profits in the firm selling 1m shares at 270p per share netting £2.7m in the process.

While the sale equates to 2.4% of the company, Rogers still has a holding of 4m shares (9.7% of the issued share capital) and has promised not to sell any more for the next 12 months.

Similarly IG Group, the spread betting firm, has also seen a large sale by a director as the shares touch on record highs, just months after three other directors disposed large tranches of shares.

Jonathan R Davie, non-executive chairman, has sold 290,000 shares at a price of 262p per share netting £761,000. The sale still leaves him with a healthy holding of 1.5m shares.

That follows the spate of sales in July this year when chief executive Nathaniel le Roux sold 10m shares, chief operating officer Peter Hetherington sold 3.8m and finance director Tim Howkins sold 1.5m.

Risk Warning

There is an extra risk of losing money when shares are bought in some smaller companies including 'Penny Shares'. There is a big difference between the buying price and the selling price of these shares. If they have to be sold immediately, you may get back much less than you paid for them or you may have difficulty in selling them. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The price may change quickly and it may go down as well as up. You could lose every penny put into a particular share.
