Hardy Amies rues poor womenswear sales

27 June 2008 16:06:00

High-end fashion retailer Hardy Amies posted a rise in revenues and narrowed pre-tax losses, but said it had been a 'mixed' year as poor womenswear sales weighed against a stronger performance in menswear.

Turnover in the year to December 31 jumped to £1.6m from £1.2m, helped by new store openings in Belfast, Edinburgh and Chester, while pre-tax losses narrowed to £1.4m from £1.6m.

The company said that due to the poor performance of the womenswear store, which was "largely self-inflicted, caused largely by poor product", it would focus on developing womenswear from its house store in Savile Row.

Due to the changes in womenswear, Nigel Bruning will be leaving the board of directors and the business from 30 June, the company said.

Risk Warning

There is an extra risk of losing money when shares are bought in some smaller companies including 'Penny Shares'. There is a big difference between the buying price and the selling price of these shares. If they have to be sold immediately, you may get back much less than you paid for them or you may have difficulty in selling them. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The price may change quickly and it may go down as well as up. You could lose every penny put into a particular share.
