Lookers' Tony Bramall tops up

15 October 2008 15:59:00

Tony Bramall, a non-executive director at the car dealer Lookers, has added to his already-large stake in the company with the purchase of more than £230,000 worth of shares.

He bought just over 662,000 shares in the company at 35p a time, meaning his family now has more than 40m shares, or about 21.6% of Lookers.

Bramall has been steadily lifting his stake in Lookers over recent months.

He bought just less than 400,000 shares on 8 October at 33.5p a time.

Shares in Lookers, which has hundreds of branches across the UK, have slumped heavily since Bramall's last buying spree in June when he bought more than 1m shares, paying between 68p and 70p a time.

In July, the company said it was being hit by an industry-wide decline in car sales.

Bramall, who made £76m when he sold his car dealer CD Bramall to rival Pendragon in 2004, joined Lookers in 2006.

Risk Warning

There is an extra risk of losing money when shares are bought in some smaller companies including 'Penny Shares'. There is a big difference between the buying price and the selling price of these shares. If they have to be sold immediately, you may get back much less than you paid for them or you may have difficulty in selling them. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The price may change quickly and it may go down as well as up. You could lose every penny put into a particular share.
