David Ross, chairman of bus and coach operator National Express Group, has continued his strategy of buying shares in the firm.

Ross snapped up 50,000 shares at 1,042p per share at a cost of £521,000. The purchase takes his total stake to around 1.65m.

Including today's purchase Ross has acquired 965,000 shares in National Express this year alone.

Ross is a seasoned director, still acting as non executive deputy chairman of Carphone Warehouse, chairman of Gondola and non executive director at Trinity Mirror, Big Yellow and Cosalt.

Shares in the group have been steadily rising, helped by a strong underlying performance although profits in the first half to June fell this year due to contract issues with its Eurostar operations.
