New Stanley Gibbons chairman opens account

21 November 2007 15:37:00

The new non-executive chairman of Stanley Gibbons Martin Bralsford has made his maiden purchase in the rare stamps and collectibles firm.

Bralsford spent more than £93,000 on 50,000 shares in the AIM listed company at an average price of 186.3p each.

The 59-year old, appointed to his new role at the start of this month, was the former boss of AIM-quoted C.I. Traders until it was taken over in August.

A private equity consortium led by Duke Street Capital paid £260m for the conglomerate and biggest corporate employer in the Channel Islands.

During the summer, Stanley Gibbons reported a 25% surge in half year profits and said it will focus resources on high growth areas such as rare stamps, autographs and developing its auction business.

Pre-tax profit for the first half rose to £1.7m from £1.36m previously on sales that increased 16% to £8.81m. Autograph and memorabilia sales increased by 52%.
