OCZ launches Centrino 2 barebones notebook

16 July 2008 13:42:00

High-end PC components company OCZ has launched a new barebones notebook computer platform using Intel's new Centrino 2 mobile processor technology.

OCZ's new 17" "whitebook" offering is the world's first Centrino 2 based notebook, the company claimed.

The platform is aimed at computer system manufacturers and system integrators to enable them to produce their own customised notebook offerings, using the OCZ whitebook as a base.

The new platform offers customers the opportunity to upgrade graphics, tag on external hard drives, and tweak the BIOS (Basic Input/Output system).

OCZ will market the new platform to its current partners in the industrial and retail computing sub-sectors alongside its existing range of mobile computer components, and will also target new customers who are not currently use OCZ branded components in their systems.

"With notebook sales already outselling desktop devices in the US, it is clearly an important market," said Ryan Peterson, chief executive officer of OCZ.

"Our new whitebook solution, combined with our existing expertise in Solid State Drivers and mobile memory, will allow us to take advantage of these trends with a greatly enhanced product portfolio," Peterson added.

Risk Warning

There is an extra risk of losing money when shares are bought in some smaller companies including 'Penny Shares'. There is a big difference between the buying price and the selling price of these shares. If they have to be sold immediately, you may get back much less than you paid for them or you may have difficulty in selling them. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future results. The price may change quickly and it may go down as well as up. You could lose every penny put into a particular share.
