Ocean Wilsons completes Rio Grande expansion

UK ports group and investment outfit Ocean Wilsons has completed the 250-metre berth expansion at the Rio Grande Container Terminal four years ahead of schedule.

The third berth will represent a reduction in lag time and also an increase in the number of ships and barges, it said.

A second update today revealed that the company's plans to build a new shipyard facility at Rio Grande in Brazil approved by the port authority council.

As much as $60m will be spent on modifications, which will allow for new shipping construction activities in the port area, mainly for vessels providing support services to oil and gas platforms.

"Wilson Sons Limited believes that, by investing in the construction of a new shipyard in Rio Grande, the company reaffirms its growth strategy, as well as its focus on the oil and gas industry," read a statement Friday.

Actual project implementation is subject to additional authorisation by the government.
