Osmetech starts trials for new warfarin test

Shares in molecular diagnostics firm Osmetech rose on news that it has started trials for an extended eSensor Warfarin sensitivity test.

Osmetech obtained clearance from the US Food and Drug Administration in July 2008 for its eSensor Warfarin Sensitivity Test to be used to help detect patients at risk for increased sensitivity to the blood-thinning drug, warfarin.

The new test will use the group's proprietary 4F2 marker and will be used on its eSensor XT-8 System.

Commenting in today's company update, chief executive James White said, "We are excited by the prospects of being able to provide what we believe will be the most comprehensive FDA-cleared test for warfarin sensitivity available in the marketplace, which will include our important and unique biomarker, 4F2."
