Public sector helps Waterman in downturn

Engineering and environmental consultant Waterman Group reported trading in line with expectations in the six months to June 30 but has seen mixed fortunes across its divisions.

The company's international business has continued to see growth, but in the UK some areas of the private sector have become more challenging.

Within the property group, Waterman has secured public sector commissions to supplement the reducing workload in the retail and commercial sectors.

"The group is not immune from the turmoil in the financial markets and challenges remain," it said.

"Public sector work in the UK and economies in developing countries where Waterman is already present, however, continue to grow and these will provide opportunities for Waterman's diverse range of consultancy services."
