03 October 2007 09:17:00

Shares in Education Development International advanced after the educational assessment services firm said it expects full-year adjusted operating profits of at least £2m.

"The company reported...that trading in July 2007 had been substantially ahead of budget," said the group.

"The board is pleased to announce that this momentum was sustained during August and September principally as a result of growth in sales in the UK vocational market, the performance of recent acquisitions and continuing operating efficiencies," it added.

Tissue sample supplier Asterand jumped on news that it has won a contract with the US government worth $2.9m over one year.

It will report on the condition and value of the Department of Defense Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) tissue repository at the end of the year and make recommendations for best practices and usage of the biomedical resource.

The AFIP currently has 7.5m cases that span the period 1917 to the present, and over 75m samples associated with these cases.

Software broadcaster Nasstar has secured a deal with easyGroup to provide hosted desktop, hosted exchange email, hosted BlackBerry and hosted sharepoint services.

The contract is for an initial period of one year with an immediate requirement in excess of 130 users subscribing for a combination of Nasstar's on demand services namely hosted desktop, hosted exchange email, BlackBerry and hosted sharepoint.

"Our services enable easyGroup and companies to access their desktops and email from anywhere in the world for a monthly subscription, making IT simple and great value," said chief executive Charles Black.

Shares in Intercede rallied after the smart card management group announced it expects first-half sales to be more than 20% higher than last year.

The group said costs and cash have also been kept under control, with a half year cash balance of £1.58m compared to £653,000 at 31 March.

Sanatana Diamonds advanced after announcing it has discovered a kimberlite, a type of rock best known for containing diamonds, on its Greenhorn project, Northwest Territories.
