The Weekend's Comments

The Independent on Saturday's columnist Derek Pain considers that "in these days of floundering stock markets, investors must rely on special situations...to provide them with a little comfort." With this in mind he suggests that Hot Group (HOT.L), "offers the promise of turning an internet dream into reality", as it's "a proper company with a proper business...operating in an online area where...the web offers the potential for highly successful, and profitable, development." He goes on to review the recent commercial and corporate history and speculates that it is on the acquisition trail, taking advantage of a highly fragmented market and is attempting to "establish a high-street presence" that "would add muscle to the group's net appeal." Derek Pain expects a further loss this year, but "much reduced." Hot Group "is a lean, mean operation and should be able to wring quick benefits from takeovers and could move into profit without much hassle." He continues, the shares "have attractions, particularly for any investor keen on an internet recovery play". The shares remained unchanged at 10am on Monday at 16.5p.
